Historical Berliner Weiss

Our Historical Berliner Weiße is made up of microbes extracted from old unopened original Berliner Weiße bottles recovered from the 1940s, 50’s, and 60’s. It includes a large amount of wheat, nearly 70%. This beer is literally a liquid history book page in a can.

Contrary to how most modern Berliners are brewed today, these beers were made with a complex mixed culture including Brettanomyces, multiple Lactobacillus strains, and Saccharomyces.

An extremely refreshing, sprightly, subtly tart beer with muted notes of Riesling wine and fresh bread. This beer will be available in 16oz Can Pours and 4 Packs to go.

This beer is best produced by conditioning in bottles or cans, so no draft kegs unfortunately.

Special thanks to Richard Priess from Escarpment Labs and Benedikt Koch for putting in the research and effort that led to this beer.
